DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR COURAGEOUS MEASURES
It was almost a year ago that I tweeted a more simplistic version of this probability and outcome meme. I was never sure whether my message reached my intended target–the activists and doers, the desperate and courageous. You really can’t count on likes and retweets.
It was noticed by a handful of like-minded people. Whether they would get the word that not much happens when you go it alone, I may never know. I do know that today, millions of people are feeling the same despair that seeped into our consciousness when Donald J. Trump, raised his hand to be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.
That day, I felt a sinkhole form in my once-hopeful soul. The hope remains in the shadows while the feeling worsens every day. The visible damage this President, has inflicted, is minimal compared to the long term impact that will take years to mitigate. It will never be reversed.
I’m running this meme again because it’s even more important now to see and read and absorb. We shouldn’t have to worry about how we are looking to the rest of the free world, but our reputation as a stable power is going downhill. Some things must get worse before they get better. Our Democracy is being hacked in case you missed it. But the probability is high that we can recover it.
To save that Democracy, and your future, you must step up and go beyond the ordinary. Either speak it, or paint it, or write it, act it, film it, direct it, or walk it, protest it, create it, or be it but please get and #staywoke. Brave people have died to defend your rights as citizens today. What are you prepared to do?
Some of you must self educate and recognize the importance of expanding your knowledge and understanding of the world and its cultures. We all bleed red. Cultivate a sense of tolerance for others or prepare to be miserable. That doesn’t mean blanket acceptance but it does mean full consideration of justice. For all.
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. —Martin Luther King, Jr.
All of us need to look within our consciousness and become as visionary as our personas will allow. You cannot continue on the road of complacency and status quo. You will lose. Your families and friends will lose.
Most important, please vote.
I know I’m walking a thin line here between Chicken Little alarmism and probability, but I feel strongly that fools and the foolish, and those who are unfortunately afflicted by 45’s Svengali sway should be ready for something cataclysmic. It is the only way I see this sick mind game finally ending.
I want to apologize on behalf of boomers and war babies of WWII to all Millennials and Gen Xers. We have pretty much screwed things up for you. But it’s too late to repair the damage. I just want to tell you, at this point, you have no way out other than to fight going forward. To do that effectively, you need to review the history of this country’s origins and its struggles to survive. We are a very young nation with many lessons to learn. My generation is dying now so it’s on you. Do your part to preserve humanity and protect the only inhabitable planet we know of. Yes, my generation selfishly neglected it. We did not think of you and what you would have to live with. I am sorry.
Please devote more time to reading, to understanding of global issues and most of all, to each other. Please resist and persevere.
Remember to stay optimistic and keep a sense of humor. Filmmaker, Jos Weldon said . “Humor keeps us alive. Humor and food. Don’t forget food. You can go a week without laughing.”
